Monthly Moments: September + More Stitching Dies

We're back with another day of the September 2014 Papertrey Ink countdown. Rolling right along. Full steam ahead until everything becomes available at 10 PM EST at Papertrey Ink.

I've got some new things to share with you today with Heather's Monthly Moments items and another set of stitching dies from me.

First up, my Monthly Moments: September project. This year we have two "monthly" themed stamp sets. We've got all of the Monthly Moments stuff and we've got the Birthday Classics Collection. I thought to myself...why not combine the two? Match made in stamping heaven.

I did just that on this card. My sentiment is from the Birthday Classics: September stamp set released last month. And then my background was stamped using the polka dot September stamp from Monthly Moments: September in shades of Pure Poppy, Terracotta Tile, Summer Sunrise, and Orange Zest. The leaves are from Monthly Moments as well and I stamped them in a falling pattern. The Dark Chocolate of the leaves, the sentiment, and the button visually ties everything together in a triangle. Loving this card.

Moving on to the stitching projects, I have a new take on the Baby Bootie Die today. I talked yesterday about still seeing my childhood ornaments on the Christmas tree. The one I always try to spot first is my baby ornament to commemorate my first Christmas.  It's a brass cradle with my name and birthday date engraved on it.

I took that idea of "Baby's First Christmas" and created a baby bootie ornament using the Baby Bootie Dies and the tree from the Coffee Cozy Detail Die Collection. This is a GREAT Christmas gift for a baby. As a mother of very small children, the last thing I really want is more toys. Besides, toys will go in short order as the child grows, but this little darling is going to stay around forever. Well worth your time to stitch up. And just think, you might have made a baby a set of booties to be worn. This is a great way to follow that up, the same type of bootie, only Christmas themed and ready to be hung on a tree.

I took the new Stitched Ornament Hanger and stitched it using the coordinating "holes only" dies into the inside heels of the baby booties. The addition of hot glue between the booties helps to hold them together in this position.

The soles are super special. Add any of the words from the Stitched Holiday Words Collection on one sole and the birth year from Stitched Years Collection on the other. Precious.  Can't wait to give this one to my new little nephew.

A word on the soles. I really spent some time thinking about how I wanted to put this ornament together. I didn't want the backside of the words and year to show through on the inside of the bootie. To solve that problem, each bootie has two soles. Upping the challenge factor a bit, but worth it. The double layer covers up the stitching on the inside. Nothing shows.

Next up, some more new stitching dies. We've got the Embroidered Border Dies (available this release) here at work on the Phone Case and Coin Purse. This die set comes with four borders that fit both these items, card fronts, and perhaps one more thing coming your way this month:).

I just love this border in particular. My favorite with alternating star bursts and flares. Flawless stitch placement thanks to the dies and a great way to add a sophisticated touch to the Coin Purse Dies.

On this Phone Case, I cut another border from the Embroidered Borders Die Collection three times and stitched up the pattern in alternating "v's". Really a great look.

OK. There you have it. I hope you like what you see. All these products and more will be available at 10 PM EST at www.papertreyink.com on September 15th. Thanks for stopping by today.

  3. LOVE that bootie ornament! I love the stitch dies : ). Any chance of getting a plain square or rectangle (or both) that only cuts the holes (not the edges)?

  4. Adorable bootie ornament. To alleviate sewing thru 2 soles, glue on a second sole either before or after embroidering the bottom (carefully trim the hole edge off the second sole). Only a couple dabs of glue are needed since baby won't be wearing them. I have made a lot of the booties and suggested that they can be used as ornaments when baby grows out of them. I supply a felt hanger that can be stitched or glued on. Since baby has worn them, they have more meaning.

  7. I have to have those new dies. I've been making several of those phone cases and these would be fabulous additional dies to use.

  10. Need to get some felt and threads in Christmas colors. Love this idea for making my grandson a "2nd Christmas" ornament since he is too large now for the booties. I have the dies and love how easy the booties are to make.

  11. The felt booties as ornament bring back memories when my young children and I would make keepsakes (at least they are now) every year for the 'children's' tree. The darling booties you have made are a treasure, both sweet and beautiful. Love all your projects today, Erin. Wonderful inspiration!
