Peeps...Stale of Fresh?

Have a little project up today at the Silhouette blog. Took a triangle box and cut it out of Cosmo Cricket woodgrain paper (second only to polka dot when it comes to my fav pattern) to make it look like a tree. Branches and a hole for an owl complete the look.

Did you know you can buy Peep Owls this time of year? Found them at my local grocery store. I might need to snap up a few boxes and hide them from myself so I can make these little logs as quick gifts. I'm getting ideas for more variations. Goes well with the Wise Owl PTI set. Dark Chocolate Ink and Spring Moss ribbon used on this project as well.

I'm a Peeps fan. If it has sugar in it, I usually am. For those of you who aren't, you probably don't know that people have Peep preferences. Like I prefer mine to be stale. As in sitting open on top of the fridge for a week stale. A lot of people do. Makes them chewy. Notice in my project I left the hole open so the Peeps could achieve maximum staleness before they are given to the recipient. That my friends, is thoughtful gift giving.

Chocolate covered Peeps are something I have yet to try, but again, covered in chocolate, I'd try just about anything. Rita's Italian Peep Ice (can't get a direct link, but the Just Born website said they have it) might be where I draw the line, however. Not sure how good that will taste. But, I'm kinda tempted to give it a try. It's free on the first day of spring, so what is there to lose?

And holy crap. Newsflash...there's a Peep Store outside of DC? I think that calls for a trip down I-270 pronto. Hank, get your jacket. You and Mama are going on a road trip!

  3. I had to look "Peeps" up first to know what you were talking about. I found them on Wikipedia and they say there that one way to eat them is to leave the box open!!
    Your tree looks good.

  4. My mom likes them stale while I prefer them right out of the package. What isn't eaten then get stuffed into a ziplock bag until the next time I need a sugar fix. Unfortunately for me the local commissary (we are currently living in Germany) doesn't have any Peeps! What the...? How can a store not have Peeps at Easter? I was (and still am) very disappointed. I may have to ask my mom to send me some soon because I know every single store in the US carries Peeps!

  5. Semi-stale peeps, just until the outside is crispy. But that Peep Store is pretty far. It's in PG County, south of DC at that new National Harbor. You'd be gone all day!

  12. Oh sweet Heaven....there are chocolate covered Peeps??! I can't believe I didn't know that. Peeps are my very most favorite holiday candy, but I like mine as fresh as they can be so they squish all over when I bite into them. LOL! You are cracking me up with this post! I think you and I would get along very well....I LOVE sugar and will eat almost anything with chocolate in/on/around it. ;-) You've GOT to get to the Peeps store...go now! Have a wonderful day!
