Introducing Whale Wishes

Land Ho Land Lubbers!Tonight's the kick off of the May 2011 Countdown and I'm here to introduce you to my little friend from Whale Wishes, designed by Dawn McVey. He's got me smiling every time I use him. Hope to make you smile as well.

First up, we're going all preppy, all the way. Whale Motifs are quite popular with the country club set. Or so I'm guessing. Not exactly the country club type over here, unless I'm part of the gang raiding the pool like in Caddy Shack.

I used the little whale to make green and navy background paper. If you notice, the green whales are right side up and the navy whales are upside down. Helps to make the design tighter on my available real estate.

I thought the sentiment was appropriate for a casual beach wedding. It's framed nicely with the Places Please stamp set and die. And my favorite element for this card--the Faux Ribbon stamp set teamed up with Double Ended Banner die. Why didn't I think of this before? Going to wear this idea out.

Next up, we're taking it in a whole different direction with a kid's birthday card. The negative piece left over from using the medium scalloped border die makes brilliant waves.

Whales are mottled in real life. Add some barnacles and sun spots with Copics to our die cut friend. Oh yes, there's a whale die. Of course there is:). Makes me happy. Googly eyes are practically a requirement for kid's cards, don't you agree?

And lastly, we're going to focus on one of the sentiments from this set. Two curved rectangles in Maile's Modern Basics have always reminded me of stylishly rendered whale tails. A very sophisticated birthday card.

A little heart matches the sentiment and helps to add that "one special" touch to the card.

So, we've got three totally different looks for $5. Moby Dick would be proud.

Check out some of the other countdown posts tonight:

Betsy's focusing on Wonderful Words.
Nichole works her magic.
Dawn's going to be featuring WhaleWishes too.
Heather's going to be very busy this month with three new sets.

  8. Love you, Erin Lincoln. Love, love, love. These are too cute. Using the frame around the whale on the second one was a great idea. And I think I'm going to steal your banner die/Faux Ribbon mashup and run with it, too! Two of my favorite products. Brilliant.
