Summer Camp

Matt and I have been talking a lot today about summer camp. We both agree that if given the opportunity to be ten years old and at summer camp, we'd grab hold and not let go. Has there ever been a kid in the history of camp that didn't completely enjoy themselves? Best time ever. Not to mention that the very first time I talked to my sweetheart was when were camp counselors together in high school. I thought he was such a dork back then. :)

What brought all this youthful longing on? Working with the new "Summer Camp" stamp set from Heather Nichols. I almost taste the hot dogs and smell the mosquito repellent.

For my first project, I was inspired by this photo I saw on Pinterest.  You know the rubbery stuff at the top of store bought notebooks that allows you to tear a sheet off?  Chic and Jo show you how to do it with a simple supply from Amazon.  Not having the supply handy, I made do with 1/4" Scor-Tape to make a little tear off notebook for postcards to go away with a kid to summer camp. Worked like a charm.

Inside, I have 12 A2 sized postcards that have been stamped on both sides. You could even make it easier for the camper by prestamping/addressing them as well. Anything to encourage them to write, right?

When your lucky camper wants to write home,all he/she needs to do is tear out a postcard.










Let's talk about binding. It's super simple and can be done in just a few steps.

1. Cut and stack cardstock for backing, cover, and backing (I used thin chipboard). For my 1/4" Scor-Tape, I cut 12 A2 sized postcards, a cover, and my backing to equal the width of the tape. 
2. On one flat edge, apply Scor-Tape and trim overhang with scissors. (Just like they are applying glue to the inspiration photo.)  I think Washi tape would look great here as well. 
3. Cover up raw and sticky edge with decorative paper.

The Scor-Tape on the edge has enough stick to hold the postcards in place, but only until you tug one out. Just like a notebook. Pretty cool, huh? I'm thinking this would work for lots of ideas.

And how about a card? Here's my merit badge card featuring little images from "Summer Camp". I was inspired by Stamp-A-Faire and the merit badges that come with the tote bags. Easy to make a sash with Simply Chartreuse Bitty Dot Paper. We use the term "happy camper" all the time around here and this card to be used for lots of occasions when we want to give a little encouragement.
