Yep. Snowflakes today. I could literally crawl under the covers and weep. Cosmic joke, is what it is. Sigh. I keep telling myself soon as I obsessively check the 10 day forecast online. It's got to change at some point, right?
In lieu of a warm front moving through, how about a birthday card with daffodils? There was a question from Audrey on the last Papertrey Radio about working with all the stamp sets, including those that aren't your personal style. The whole Year of Flowers Series fell into that category for me. Extremely challenging (although very beautiful) and I was racking my brain every month to come up with something creative using them. It's a good exercise. Glad I broke out the daffodils last night when I made this card for my MIL. She always says the daffodils remind her of her birthday. I hope when she sees the card tomorrow, that she'll have a spark of recognition. Definitely made just for her.
Also used a quote from All Booked Up inside one of the new Label Basics stamps and dies. I love my labels with Background Basics: Gingham inside. Will be a signature of mine. This size in particular. Seems to fit a lot of those quotes I have. Inside has the sentiment from Calendar Basics. Edgers #1 and Copics finish it off without any effort. Felt relaxed and refreshed when I was done. Needed that.
On the topic of Audrey's question again--I was a loyal PTI customer for 3 years before I got the design team gig. Had purchased 90+ sets myself. I think of those, I might have only had 1 or 2 of Heather's. On the computer, they never much appealed to me. What I have come to appreciate the last 14 months where I have all of her new releases to work with, is how very workable they are. Her stamps make projects come together so easily for me. And now I'm hooked. A bit of a sleeper hit for me. Might be the same for you. Love those things.
And that is that. Off to watch a movie. And curse the fact I still have to wear my flannels.
Well you certainly cannot tell that the Year of Flower sets are hard for you, because this card is simply stunning Erin, I love that daffodil and have only just ordered it, hopefully on its way..thank you for being so inspiring. Hugs! PS. Hope the snow goes soon for you :)
ReplyDeleteHi Erin, My snow has just disappeared on my long driveway today - Forest Hill, California!!!
ReplyDeleteToday was the first time in well over two weeks, probably more since I could get my car out!!! Sunny California?!? NOT this year! Your card is adorable, but I'm prejudiced---I love daffodils. They're such smile bringers!!! I pray Spring visits you SOON! Loves & Hugs
Wow Erin, this card is a beauty. I must admit the YOTF stamps weren't really my cup of tea either. I have two of the 12 that are out now because they appeal to me. Stll, you've done an amazing job with this gorgeous daffodil. I love the gingham touches too. Sorry to hear about your snow, summer is coming, promise!! I'm embracing the cooler days we're having over here now - our summer was a long, hot one and we were still having 30C days last week!! It's almost April for goodness sake!! xx
ReplyDeleteOeh, gosh, you have snow... Well, we have rain, which isn't really nice either, but snow is even worse! Hang in there, spring will come for sure!!! Your card bringe me spring already! Very nice flower! I love some of Heathers sets as well, not all, but they are very versatile. Love your card!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Wendy
So sorry about the snow!! Your card is lovely!! I hope spring comes soon for all of us!! :)
ReplyDeleteWe are expecting snow today and tomorrow. Like a foot of it. I'm less than pleased! Your card, however, is absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI won't comment on our weather in Florida or I may be banned from blogging. First, congrats on your cards in CARDS magazine. They are striking and can be used for almost any occasion. Second, I love your podcast. I have a little trouble hearing but that is my age. I have turned up the volume all the way so I can hear every word. You have the most beautiful children. Liza (I think that's her name) is a beauty. I could just nibble on those sweet little fingers. Thanks so much for inspiring me.
ReplyDeleteThat's the nice thing about daffodils. They come out whether it's warm or snowing! We've had both, switching every few days here. And the daffodils are out.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the predicted 70 deg. on Saturday, but then it's supposed to snow again Sunday. That's spring, for you!
Oh beautiful card! You would never know this was a challenge for you. I love Year of Flowers but my challenge is coloring...I haven't yet purchased one set of YOF because of my coloring phobial...or lack of skill really! Truly a lovely card, Erin, you MIL will love it! So sorry about the snow...makes me even gladder that I live in the south:)
ReplyDeleteHeather is a genius in the crafting world. Her attention to detail and imagination is understated and sometimes goes un-noticed. All of her work is worth looking at and her blog comments are really well thought out and helpful. I have found her to be a good teacher and have learned so many tips and techniques from her blog.
ReplyDeleteErin, thanks for the bright and sunny card today, I loved it.
Love the card, but I wanted to let you know that the name of your blog is just perfect. When I have papers to grade or lessons to plan, I stop by your blog to procrastinate first, LOL!!! Speaking of...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card , love the gingham on the inside of the card . Nice touch.
