Day 2 Boutique Accessories Collection

I'm just so thrilled that ya'll are as enthusiastic about this little barrette idea as I am. Thanks for the overwhelmingly positive response to it yesterday. I'm giddy at the thought of all those little girls out there who are going to have the cutest little hair doodads decorating their curls here soon. Little girls need to be little girls, don't you agree?

I showed you yesterday how well Papertrey Ink's felt works with the Clever Barrette Cover Die. Today we are going to branch out a bit and show you a world of possibility when it comes to adding fabric. Yes,  you read right. Fabric. With the help of some fabric stabilizer ironed on the back, you can run it through your die cut machines without a hiccup.

In doing so, you get sweet little barrettes like these ones. I still cut the scalloped middle and back pieces in felt, but the top is out of a pink vintage floral. I was picky about where in the pattern I cut and as a result, the barrettes are fine "as-is". No need for additional embellishment.

I decided to cover up the opening in the main card of the Boutique Accessory Car Die with Saddle Stitch Blueberry Sky ribbon, just for a different look. A tag cut with Tremendous Tags is tied to the side. I handcut a floral spray from the same fabric as the barrette covers for the tag to tie things all together. The Countdown Details Die is stamped with "a little something" from Do Me a Favor Tags.

You might notice a piece of Blueberry Sky Polka Dot cut out of one of the Limitless Layers 2.5" Circle dies. I went looking for something to put between the barrettes and the card and this was the only thing I could find that would work. It needed to be big enough so it wasn't cut in half by the slits, but small enough that the edges of the die couldn't cut into it.

To achieve the same look, first cut it out your circle die and then cut it out with the Boutique Accessory Card die, with it positioned just so in your die cut machine. Then adhere to the front of the bowed piece with Scor-It Tape between the two slits. I think it adds a little somethin' somethin' to the front if you want to pretty it up a bit.

Here's another example of fabric covered barrettes. Nichole's "Boutique Accessory" stamp was used for the "Handmade Just for You" on the front. I also busted out Sew Simple Borders for a little added interest.

Here's a close up of one of the barrettes in this pair. I cut Beautiful Blooms #2 die in yellow polka dot fabric. Vintage Cream felt was cut into circles with Heart-2-Heart #3 die. An Enchanted Evening button tops off my embellishment.

For a finishing touch, add some ribbon to the hanger hole on the card. Make sure it matches the barrettes and is long enough to tie in a pony tail. Now just imagine one lucky girl having a pony tied up in a yellow ribbon and two homemade barrettes placed on either side to tame the fly-aways. Seriously cute.

I mentioned yesterday that you can do a "deluxe" assembly on the Boutique Accessory Die. Let me show you what I mean. First, check out the die. It comes in two parts: the main card part and the bowed front piece that gets scored. The resulting tabs get adhered to the back of the card.

On the left is an example of the standard assembly. On the right, is the "deluxe". Just cut the card again and adhere to the back over the tabs, hiding them. Decorate at will. Match it to your front or leave it blank for a message. Here I used a combination of Button Boutique, Blooming Button Bits, and Buttoned Up sets with the Button Boutique die.

That's it for me tonight. Hope you enjoyed. Be sure to check out the following blogs for more sneak peaks. And remember, all of the new products I'm featuring tonight will be available to purchase at on February 15th.
