Spring Fling and Day 4 of Boutique Accessories

Group post time with Papertrey Ink! And boy do we have surprises for you. You know by now to expect it, right? Those products that are introduced on the last few days that make you scramble to rearrange your wish list? How's a set of Easter baskets sound this time around? They are super cute!

If you are playing along with the Spring Flip bunny hunt, the above is your official photo. I'm not seeing a bunny. Are you?  This little Easter basket is the larger size Favor It 9 Box that is being introduced this month. Good size, no?  Holds two types of candy and a barrette card.

We were asked to come up with an inspiration photo. This is mine. Something I got off Pinterest ( oh course!) and linked to Etsy. I think it's pretty easy to see the creative leap I took. I replicated the gingham border on the top of the basket and the personalization of the basket. Used the new Headlines alphabet and dies.

On the inside edge of the basket, I adhered paper cut with the Filigree Border die. It gives it a nice feminine touch.

On the side of the name on my basket, I die cut and cut the bunny from the upcoming Polka Dot Parade. (I'm excited to see the rest of this series!) Instead of die cuttting or stamping the tail, I found a funky swirl button in my White and Cream mix. I think it is perfect!

Inside the basket, I have a Peep, a little clear pillow box of Cadbury chocolate eggs, and a set of homemade barrettes cut with the Clever Barrette Cover and being packaged with a shortened Boutique Accessory Die. The little egg embellishments are something I got from Michael's. A gazillion options there for embellishing these barrettes. I even made Eliza a purple one to wear on Super Bowl Sunday with a football button on it. The possibilities are endless.

You'll notice that my Peep wasn't wrapped. I was "staling" it. You want to know if somebody loves you? They stale your Peeps for you before Easter. In my opinion, that's a sign of true love. Ya'll know what I'm talking about. I'm not the only stale Peep lover out there:).

Are you feeling all hippity hoppity now? Let's hop on over to another spring set being released this month--Maile's new Mini Blooms. I used this one a lot ! So sweet, tons of options, crazy dies and layering. It's a good one folks.

I stamped the large cluster of flowers and leaves in the lower right hand corner of my Simply Chartreuse panel. and then I just started die cutting and stamping on colored cardstock to bring it to life. For the leaves, I stamped right over the original image with the darker Ripe Avocado ink.

I added in a sentiment from the new Wonderful Words #1 and die. The word "hello" is cut out of white cardstock and the "from the heart" is stamped in Ripe Avocado and then clear embossed on vellum. A heart from Tremendous Tags helps to reinforce the concept. Everything is mounted on an Aqua Mist cardstock.

How about pairing up Mini Blooms and the Boutique Accessory Collection? I stamped a smaller flower cluster on all four corners of the slotted piece of Boutique Accessory card. The set has all the flowers in the clusters available as singles (and dies...it is crazy), so I was able to fill in any blank areas to create a frame for my barrette.

I wanted to create today's barrette with the thought that there are numerous tutorials online for homemade, handcrafted flowers out of countless materials. There are no limits to the little embellishments you can put on the Clever Barrette Covers. I've been sitting on this Ric Rac Flower for awhile. Here's the tutorial. Busted it out and now I need Ric Rac in every color possible! Very easy. The leaf spray is cut using the Turning a New Leaf die in Limeade Ice.

The actual barrette cover I wanted to take a bit of a backseat to the flower. Notice that I used the same color embroidery floss as the felt. I was going for subtle. The Clever Barrette Covers make a good base for more elaborate flowers and embellishments. And I'm finding that the felt on the back really helps to grip the hair. These barrettes have been staying in Eliza's hair really well.

Up until now, I've been creating barrette pairs. This is a single. You likely wouldn't want to wear two of these at the same time. One makes enough of a statement. With the extra room on the slotted card front, I was able to stamp "Handmade Just For You" over the slits. Totally worked and is a different look.

For the card base, I stamped Super Stripes and the same sentiment from Boutique Accessories in repetition. Here's the back so you can get a good idea of how the pattern looks.

And just for fun, here's my Sassy Pants wearing a barrette that I featured the other day. Oh, how I can eat her up. So stinking cute. She's my muse for this whole line.

Thanks for stopping by. Everybody is in on the group post today, so be sure to bunny hop on over to find those hidden bunnies and previews of Mini Blooms, Polka Dot Parade, and Favor It Box 9.

  2. Oh just love your ricrak flower and you are right to think just one is enough and very pretty. Love the stamped back too - so elegant. As an adult with grown up children and no grandchildren I've been guilty of wearing barettes as brooches through the button hole on a coat or cardigan. I can see myself making some of these in spring colours to cheer myself and everyone else up while we wait for warmer weather.

Oh, and what on earth are peeps!! I'll have to google it.
