Birthday Bash

It's all about birthdays today. If I was to wager a guess, I bet most of you got into the card making hobby with the primary intention of making birthday cards. It's what you need the most of, right? And if you're mama raised you right, the thank you card is a close second. I'm sure sometime in the future we'll focus on those. Right now, it's all about celebrating the special people in your life on their birthdays.

Nichole's designed another fabulous collection of tags in the 2012 Birthday Tag Collection. Lots of neat and classy typography. And with the addition of the Limitless Layers Oval Collection back in January, our standard 1.75" tag is being joined with the new oval shape. So lovely. One oval tag in particular reminded me of cigar labels. That was all the inspiration I needed to go off on a masculine project tangent.

If you notice on my main tag image, there are graphics from Rosie Posie on a smaller scale. So I pulled that set and Mat Stack 5 Collection and recreated the fancy cigar style graphics on the front in Blueberry Sky (yes!), Simply Chartreuse, and Enchanted Evening ink on Spring Rain cardstock. It's a little frilly, but again, I'm trying to match the cigars. The very center of the tag was stamped in Enchanted Evening, punched out, and laid out on the Simply Chartreuse print of the same image.

I stamped the tag again in Simply Chartreuse, Blueberry Sky, and Enchanted Evening on PTI's self adhesive sheets and just wrapped around the cellophane of the cigars. It was easy to cut and score a holder and a belly band for them.

Here's a close up of the labels and focal tag. I used another image from the 2012 Birthday Tag Collection for my focal point tag. The grid strip from Background Basics: Geometrics didn't even have to be masked to add a little something to jazz it up. Don't the three colored cigar labels look so smart lined up like this?

As for the cigars themselves, I had to raid my husbands humidor and borrow a few for just a couple hours. I didn't think it would be a problem. Ahem...I would be wrong. These guys are fussy about these things. HA! After a few kisses and an apology, he forgave me. Giggle. One of these days when he asks me to whip something up like this for one of his friends, I'll try my best not to be smug about it.

Shifting gears a bit, a highly useful $5 set called By Invitation is being released this month as well. It teams up perfectly with any party theme. I just went with the flow and ended up creating a Rehearsal Luncheon invitation. There are a ton of options for party stamps in the Table Service set--that's where I pulled "a rehearsal luncheon" from. Two new dies, Card Base-ics 1 and 2, are sized to hold an insert with the invitation stamp image on it. That's exactly what I did using Kraft ink. The new Background Basics: Wrought Iron and Mat Stack 5 Collection decorate the Melon Berry holder. Delightful.

I hope you enjoyed today's offerings. Check back tomorrow for another group project. And in the meantime, in between time my creative colleagues have some delights of their own:

  8. Very cool project, Erin! Never would have thought of dressing up a cigar, very fun idea. Hope you didn't get in too much trouble with your hubby! ;) That would be a neat gift for a new dad too. And YES, you're so right about birthday cards being the reason we get into cardmaking. My first card was a birthday card for my neice's first birthday. Was trying to be a good aunt and wanted to give her something special!! Anyways, your projects are great as always!

  9. Cute idea....an idea for the non-smoker, at first glance, I thought they were biscotti. Hmmm.
