Introducing Feather Finery

It is Group Post day at Papertrey Ink. We're debuting and creating with Nichole's new ultra trendy, yet sure-to-go-the-distance Feather Finery set. As usual, she's found a lovely angle on it that will have you itching to create.

We were tasked with a different type of challenge this time. We were to find a Pinterest photo and make one easy and one more complicated card inspired by it. I had a lot of fun with this. Here's my two cards together.

My simple card is on the top and yet, it was not the first one I created. I jumped in the deep end first with the tonal ink treatment and masking of text and music stamps on my feathers to match my inspiration piece.

To achieve the look of the music and text on the feathers, I created a mask out of scratch paper. The mask only opened up the two 2/3's of the feather to additional stamping. You can see the division on the top blue feather in particular. It comes down in a v-shape. Practically speaking, adding additional images wouldn't have worked too well below that line with the feather strains a bit more spread out. Worked fine because it matched the inspiration photo:).

I also used the mask to add ink with a sponge applicator. I was a bit more heavy handed with it toward the top to give an ombre look.

A sentiment from Feather Finery is heat embossed in gold along the top for an additional "advanced" technique.

Each of the three feather images included in Feather Finery come with a two-step option. You can give them a splattering of dots. I took those dot stamps and stamped them as background interest around my feathers. Worked well.

I think I might have a favorite new die...Harvest Berries. I die cut the little berry die with gold foil paper. Just the right amount of dimension. Move over sequins, there's a new embellishment in town.

The muted gold glitter polka dot paper is from Paper Studios a la Hobby Lobby. It is perfection teamed up with Classic Kraft. And it is the nice glitter paper that doesn't shed! Bonus points.

I was pretty darn pleased with this card and was sure that my more simplistic card wouldn't pack as much prettiness within the confines of an A2 card. I was wrong. I ended up loving the simple card more! Just a testament to how lovely the feather images are. They hold their own.

Instead of the complicated masking and inking technique, I used the feathers as they are intended to be used with the two step dotted accent stamps. And promptly feel in love. So beautiful. Other simple touches include adhesive backed pearls instead of foil circles and a simple ink stamped sentiment on a Photo Finisher Strip. Which card do you like more?

And lastly today, I wanted to team up Feather Finery with my BB: Diagonals and Diagonal Additions stamps coming out this month as well. Got a new treatment for you. I used the herringbone strip from BB: Diagonals and stamped it twice in Raspberry Fizz ink across the front of my horizontally oriented A2 card. I inked it up one more time using Winter Wisteria ink and shifted it up just a little bit to fill in the open spaces of the original Raspberry Fizz impression. Next, I took the single solid herringbone elements from Diagonal Additions and filled in just a line of the pattern with Royal Velvet ink.

A sentiment from Think Big Favorites #13 was stamped in Royal Velvet too to match the accent strip and heat embossed with clear power. The smallest feather from Feather Finery accents things nicely.

That's it from me today. Hope you are tickled pink with the offerings. All new products featured today will be available to join you stamping stash on January 15th, 2014 at 10 PM EST at www.papertreyink.com.  For more inspiration using today's introductions, click on over to the following blogs:

  1. Your cards are all beautiful today Erin, but I'm partial to your 2nd, more simplistic one. The colors, the feathers themselves, the pearls...they all add up to simply beautiful! Love the gold foil dot idea too! :0)
