Day 1 of Background Basics: Diagonals and Diagonal Additions

It's time again for another Papertrey Ink countdown. Full steam ahead!

I'm here this month a few new products I would like to share with you. I've got a great new and very trendy background set called Background Basics: Diagonals that features a herringbone and chevron pattern. This little baby has been designed for over a year. Since then, I learned a great deal about illustrating. I felt that there was something more that I could bring to this stamp set to make it even more special. So a last minute play was staged and we were able to squeak in a $5 Diagonal Additions set with matching dies that is going to knock your socks off. Takes things to a whole new level. Let me show you what I mean.

But first...let me show you Background Basics: Diagonals all on it's own. It's really fun. Here we have the herringbone pattern going horizontal across the card. I wanted it to take more of the backseat, so I stamped Summer Sunrise on Lemon Tart cardstock. Very tone on tone. This is great for something you just want to add a little interest to.

I bet you are wondering how easy it is to line up. It is a cinch. I haven't made a mistake yet. You've only got to worry about lining up a handful of points, all of which are easy to see. Super simple.

We've also got a sentiment here from Kid Kudos. I stamped it on two banner cuts from Sketched Shapes dies.

Now it's time to let the Diagonal Additions set and dies shine a bit. These are so exciting because they open up such a world of possibility. I took the individual elements of both the chevron and herringbone patterns and designed them to have different looks and patterns. This way, you can add them back into the open spaces of your stamped background for added interest, color, and pattern. And...this is even better...we've got dies to match! So you can overlay them, add different color cardstock for an additional design element, or use them all on their own. Pretty stinkin' cool, huh?

On this card, I stamped the chevron pattern from BB: Diagonals twice in Classic Kraft ink on Fine Linen cardstock. I die cut the individual chevrons out of Stamper's Select cardstock and then stamped them with the star patterned chevron in Enchanted Evening and Pure Poppy ink. Next, I adhered them right over the pattern stamped with BB: Diagonals, which served as a placement guide.  All of a sudden, BB: Diagonals isn't just a background set any more. It's serving as a focal point in this case.

OK. Hope you are as excited as I am about these new products. They'll be available on January 15th at 10 PM EST at www.papertreyink.com. For more inspiration, check out Nichole's blog today. She'll have some more projects and link you up to other design team members who are posting things today as well.

Be back tomorrow!
