Stamp-A-Faire 2015: Accessory Challenge

Is everybody having a wonderful day with the Papertrey Ink crew? Stamp-A-Faire 2015 is here and in full swing! Fantastic!

I'm up to bat with the Accessory Challenge this year. As soon as I knew we had a Project Runway theme, I knew I had a perfect venue for a little idea I had in a felt necklace base created with stitching dies. And it is something you can totally wear and get loads of compliments on. I'm so excited about it.

So today, I'm challenging you to use the Tri-Flower Necklace Base and Petal Stitch Dies that were included in your Stamp-A-Faire Kit to make a statement necklace. With your creativity and imagination, you can make a one-of-a-kind creation that you will love to wear.

For my video today, I'll be demonstrating how to make this particular necklace.

Stamp-a-Faire Necklace

First up, I have a tutorial showing you how to use and put together the Tri-Flower Necklace Base included in your kit.

Long after Stamp-A-Faire is over you can use this very versatile die to create all manner of statement necklace pieces. The sky is the limit as far as what you can add to the base. And it is so very simple to put together. Click play to see the details.

Once your Tri Flower Necklace Base is sewn up, it is time to embellish. For Stamp-A-Faire today, we also included the Petal Stitch Dies in the kit to do just that. They look like this:

The idea behind these is that you can take whatever existing flower dies in your craft collection, cut them out of felt, and then add many variations of stitching and beading to your project. An assortment of felt, seed beads, and silver necklace chain was included in your kit as well to help you on your way. You've got everything you need to make yourself an one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry today.  Click "play" to see the Petal Stitch Dies in action.

Here's a close up of the statement piece I made in the video. I love the use of the Freshly Fallen dies on the Beautiful Blooms 1 and Friendly Flower Die Collections.

Also for your reference as you are planning out your design, I've put together a few graphics to spark your imagination.

In this graphic, I've taken each of the individual dies in the Petal Stitch Die Collection and gave you some options as to how to add your stitching and beads.

Also for easy reference, I've put together this illustration. It shows you the two different ways you can add beading to the stitching holes included in the Petal Stitch Die Collection.

It is my hope that you take these two sets of dies and go on to use them on more necklaces and stitching projects. They are very versatile and make the most of what you already have in your stash. To help you along the way, there is an additional die included in the Tri-Flower Necklace Base. You've probably noticed and wondered what it is for and how to use it. I've got a illustration for you on that one as well. Mystery solved.

I've been having fun with these dies outside of Stamp-A-Faire. Just to give you an example, I made this pair of beaded barrettes using the Clever Barrette Dies for my niece's birthday last month.

Barrettes with Petal Stich Dies

How fabulous are these? I can see pre-tweeners enjoying the bling and sparkle added by the beads.

You can go beyond seed beads with the Petal Stitch Dies. On these I've thrown in some bugle beads as well. Adds even more variation. Those bugle beads might have been stolen from the Quick Stitch Kit: Beaded Holiday that I'll be debuting on Monday morning. Pop back here then to see more about that. It's all about sparkle and shine.

OK. Thank you so much for joining me and participating in the day's festivities. It's a happy day in PTI Land. I'll be around the rest of the day, checking both comments on my blog and on the forum if you have any questions. DYING to see your creations using these dies!

  3. I'm a newbie here! A quilter who somehow came across the key fob yesterday and I LOVE it! But since descriptions seem few on Papertrey Ink, I'm having trouble figuring out what exactly is in the kit such as the Quick Stitch Kit: Sewing Staples. Does it have the flower dies, etc, in it too? Is everything pictured there IN the kit? Thanks so much!
